A hydride is the anion of hydrogen, H−, or, more commonly, it is an alloy or a compound in which one or more hydrogen centres have nucleophilic, reducing properties.. In compounds that are regarded as hydrides, hydrogen is bonded to a more electropositive element . In the above question the reduction potential for oxygen is more as compared to hydrogen therefore the hydrogen does not get reduced in water. Thank u
