Molecular orbitals are formed when atomic orbitals of equal energy hybrize. 

MOT states that n no. of atomic orbitals hybridise to form n no. of molecular orbitals of equal energy. Thiis theory helps us to give the arrangement of electrons in molecules and also its magnetic properties.
