The outer octahedral complexes are called high spin complexes because "As no pairing occurs in these complexes, they can have many no. of unpaired electrons(1 to 5) and large value of magnetic moment "

as no pair occurs in these complexs they can have many unpaired electrons and hence large value of magnetic momentum

The loan pair of elecrton which gained from the ligands in complexes are entered into the vacnt availble d  and p orbitals.  the inner-d and p orbitals are filled up with thoes gained electrons and If electrons are remained, these are entered into the outer d orbitalsl. So the complex get the outer octahedral stracture and as the electrons increases the spin also increases.
