state whether the following are correct or incorrect
1)sp2 hybridised orbitals bonded to same substitunts have equal s and p character
2)hybridised orbitals always form σ bonds(if incorrect then plz give example where hybridised orbitals forms bond rather than σ bond)
i need explanation
1) false...
s char= (no of s orbitals) = 33% for sp2
total no of orbitals
2) true
hybridised orbitals are very directional.. ie they they have a fixed direction
and for an atom, hybrid orbitals are symmetrically spaced out..
to form a pi bond 2 HOs would need to come together.. this is very difficult for them as they cant leav their position.. so no double bonds...
