shape of the molecule [IF6]- ionis destoid octahedral according to NCERT XII without reason, why it is not pentagonal pyramidal shape, while angle 72* is less then 90*?
Dear Umesh Jakhar,
The Central Atom is Iodine(I) & it is surrounded by 6 fluoride ions !It also has a lone pair !
It goes as this IF6- = 6 bond pairs + 1 lone pair !
Remember that for Pentagonal Bipyramidal you must have 7 Bond Pairs & no lone pair !!
So this assumes the shape of a distored octahedron & not a pentagonal bipyramidal shape !!
Hope you understood !!
All the Best & Good Luck !!Please approve my answer if you liked it by clicking on "Yes" given below..!!!
