Dear Vaishal Shah,

Copper that is CU+2  has 27 elctrons  = Argon(18) + 9 electrons(in 3d orbit shell)  = 27 electons

so both contains same electrons

Cu has 29 electrons....and argon has 18 electrons...

Atomic no of Cu is 29

1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 4s2 3d9

due to transition properties the electron pair exites and the configuration becomes

1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d10 4s1

Cu2+ means lossing 2 e

so the resulting config is

1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d9

1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 is config for Argon

Cu2+ is [Ar] 3d9

[Ar]3d9 ... means that the electronic configuration of Cu2+ is same as that of the element Argon plus 3d9...

Electronic configuration of Argon is .... 1s2 2s2 2p6

So, that makes the electronic configuration of Cu2+   as 1s2 2s2 2p63d9 ....

We generally write this way so that we dont have to write the electronic configuration again and again.... Also, generally we use Noble componds in such a way...
