Dear Vivek,

16 grams of dioxygen is equal to 0.5 mole.

C + O2 ---> CO2

As you can see from the, when 1 mole of carbon is burnt in 1 or more moles of dioxygen are required for complete combustion.But, as there is not enough oxygen an incomplete combustion takes place.

C+ 0.5 O2 ---> CO

So no carbon dioxide is produced but 1 mole of carbon monoxide is produced.
