Ethene is not a very complicated molecule. It contains two carbon atoms that are double bonded to each other, with each of these atoms also bonded to two Hydrogen atoms. This forms a total of three bonds to each carbon atom, giving them an \(sp^2\) hybridization

HELLO THERE!

First, let me tell you comething!

Alpha carbon: The carbon adjacent to the carbon directly attached with another carbon with a double bond is called as Alpha carbon.

Alpha hydrogen: The hydrogens attached to an alpha carbon is called as Alpha hydrogen.

Now, to show hyperconjugation, Alpha hydrogen must be present (hyperconjugation is also known as no-bond resonance). However, Ethene is the simplest Alkene, having only two carbons directly attached with a double bond. There is no adjacent carbon (alpha carbon) attached to these carbons and hence, no alpha hydrogen.

Thus, ethene doesn’t show hyperconjugation.

My question is
Formula for number of hyper conjugating structure is alpha hydrogen +1,
Then, why ethene has no hyper conjugating structure ??
If we go according to formula, the ans is 1
But it is zero
Why ????
