According to perccentile cutoff which is introduced recently you are falling marginally short of the required percentage. Top 20 percentile is around 82 % in CBSE boards. If you want to sit for improvement exam then you have to make sure you apply via mail to CBSE for that before the deadline. You can go to the site and have read about it. All the instructions corresponding and the criteria are given. Keep one thing in mind that if you are sitting for improvement exam then you have to score higher or else you latest score is the acceptable score
