A map(mapping )is a special case of a function, and here is why:

A functionis defined by starting set E(input), an incoming set F(output), and an E to F relationship wherein each element from Ehas at most an image (in F). All elements of E having an image compose a set that is called domain of definition of the function.

A map, is defined by starting set E(input), an incoming set F(output), and an E to F relationship wherein each element from Ehas only one image (in F).

From both definition, we can conclude that a map is a function whose domain of definitionis equal tothe starting set.
