Dear student,

The importance of significant digits is to express the idea of accuracy of with which a measurement has been done. This accuracy is limited by that of the box since it has been measured upto 2 decimal places of kgs.

The total mass of the system is2.13kg+0.00215kg+0.01209kg=2.14424kg

But since the accuracy in measurement of box itself is limited to 2 decimal places, we cannot talk about about the accuracy of the total mass’ measurement further than that.
Hence the total mass of box to the correct number of significant digits is 2.14kg.
