Sir/Madam, Why general category ranks are higher than OBC, SC & ST ranks in IIT.

Suppose in IIT Bombay Civil Engineering general category open & closing rank is 400, 1688 respectively. At the same for OBC open & closing rank is 379, 873 respectively.

all this is due to rules of our constitution. all the scheduled categories like sc,st,obc are reserved categories. so tthis is reason why general ranks are higher than ranks of scheduled categories. all this is called reservation.

Dear Student, the categories mentioned by you are given somem special treatment in almost every field, may it be test fee, rank/score or job opportunities, the reason being these categories have undergone so many tyrannies in the pages of history, to compensate that the government offered some benefits to these categories and perhaps the relaxation of merit is one of them, my suggestion for you is to stay concentrated to your goal, strive harder and get to the top rank and be able to get a seat in your desired institution, else there are private colleges and universities which give no heed to categories rather they give priority to quality and the most deserving students, to best of my knowledge these names can be cited here – Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Delhi,.........Lovely Profesional University, Phagwara,...........Visvesvarya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur,.........Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra.
