JEE Main 2015 Eligibility Criteria

1. Pass Percentage in Qualifying Examination:
Candidates must have studied Physics,Mathematics as compulsory subjects
They must have studied any one of the subjects as optional subjects (Chemistry, Bio-technology, Computer Science, Biology)
They must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in total including all subjects



2. Date of Birth:
Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1990 to be considered for the JEE Main 2015.
SC/ST/PwD Candidates will have a relaxation of the upper age limit by 5 years.
SC/ST/PwD Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 1985.
Note: Date of Birth as mentioned in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will be taken as the correct one.

2. Year of Passing Qualifying Examination (QE):
Candidates must have passed their Class XII examination or other qualifying examination in the year 2013 or 2014. OR
Candidates who are appearing for their Class XII examination in 2015 are eligible
Candidates must have studied at least five subjects in their Class XII or other qualifying exam.
Note: This clause is Not applicable for candidates who have passed their Class XII or Equivalent in 2013 or 2014 even if they are appearing for improvement in 2015.

Candidates who have studied four subjects are NOT eligible.


Clarifications: Candidates will be eligible as per the year they have first written the 10+2 examination for eg Candidates who have appeared for the first time in 2012 and failed but have passed in 2013 are NOT eligible.



3. Number of Allowed attempts:
A maximum number of three attempts will be allowed per candidate provide the other eligibility criteria are fulfilled by the candidates

4. Candidates from Maharashtra, Odisha and Nagaland will have to appear for JEE Main 2015 as the respective states have joined in the JEE Main system along with Gujarat.


List of Qualifying Exams that are considered for JEE Main 2015:
The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognized central/ state Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.

Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.

Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.

H.S.C. vocational examination.

Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National

Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.

A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3 year duration.

Any Public School/ Board/ University examination in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level. [Only for Admission to IITs]

High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva. [Only for Admission to IITs]


Note: In case the relevant QE is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level. [Only for Admission to IITs]


Note: All state board candidates have to choose the option 2 when filling their JEE Main 2015 Application Form while the other exams are self explanatory.


Top 150000 rank holders in JEE Main:
Only top 150000 rank holders in JEE Main 2014 merit lists for all the categories will be able to apply for JEE Advanced 2014. The distribution of top candidates in different merit lists that will be allowed to sit for IIT JEE 2014 will be as follows:

Top 75,750 (50.5 %) candidates from Common Merit List
Top 40,500 (27%) candidates from Other Backward Classes – Non-creamy layer OBC (NCL) merit list
Top 22,500 (15 %) candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC) merit list
Top 11,250 (7.5 %) candidates from Scheduled Tribe (ST) merit list

As per Government of India norms, 3% of the candidates in the merit lists of each category will be Physically Disabled (PD) candidates.

Minimum Marks in Qualifying Examination (QE): For admission to IITs and ISM Dhanbad, the top 150000 candidates will have to prove that they are top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective categories in Class 12 board exams.

If the Board does not provide information about what is the their cut-off score for top 20 percentilers in different categories, candidates will have to produce a certificate from the concerned Board to prove that they do fall within the acceptable percentile range. Otherwise, CBSE cut-off score for Top 20 percentile for the respective category of the students will be considered binding.
