Let initial velocity be 3j (as in north direction.
And final velocity will be -4i (as in west direction).
No averge accelaration, a = dv/dt. 
dv = -4i – 3j = -(4j+3i).
Magnitude of dv = (4^2 + 3^2)^0.5    = 5 m/s
Now dt = 10 s
So, a = 5/10 or ½.
where the direction is along tan-1(4/3). (The angle in third quadrant.
