iit selecting student on the besis of jee advanced rank , not of jee main , but to appear jee advanced u need to qualify jee main , 
if u can score 120 in jee main from 360 , then u can qualify easily as a general candidate , nearly 2 lakh 20, 000 student will gng to qualify in jee main 2017 , it may incraese in 2018 . 
and after that u need to write aDVANCED , and as iit have only 10,500 seats in approx as of now , so, u need within a rank of 11,000 to get into a lower branches into any one of the iit .
