if you have qualified jee mains, then you have two option-
1- take JEE advanced and through advanced test you can join IIT
2- Take the seat in NIT through JEE mains
conclusion- JEE mains is for NITs and JEE advanced is for IITs. but you can take advanced only if you have cleared the mains.
and these tests are happened in same year.
