VD of volatile metal chloride = 59.5

Molar mass = 2 x VD = 2 x 59.5 = 119

Equivalent mass of metal = 24

If metal is :

univalent , metal chloride will be MCl

Bivalent, metal chloride will be MCl2

Divalent, metal chloride will be MCl3

Molar mass should be 59.5,119 0r 178.5 for MCl,MCl2 and MCl3

So metal chloride is MCl2 and metal is bivalent

Atomic mass of metal= equivalent mass x 2 = 24 x 2 =48
