why jockey should not be rubbed on a potentiometer wire ? ?

Jockey should not be rubbed against potentiometer wire as it will affect the cross sectional area of wire and hence final readings will get affected.

Rubbing the wire with jockey will cause a decrease in cross sectional area of the wire in different parts.the resistance in different portions of wire will become different.this is opposite to assumption of the potentiometer.
