the external load W applied at the free end of a cantilever exerts a bending torque at each section of the cantilever.Its value at a distance x fro the end is W(l –x).where l is the lengththis is maximum for x = 0, i.e. at the fixed end.hence cantilever is more likely to break at fixed end.
