what is virtual current

The virtual current occurs in electromagnetic flowmeters.
The sensitivity of an electromagnetic flowmeter is affected by the electrical conductivity of the tubes attached to its ends. Theoretically this effect is due to a disturbance in the distribution of ‘virtual current’ in the liquid. The alteration in virtual current for perfectly conducting tubes is determined using the Wiener-Hopf technique. An analytical expression for the end-effect correction to virtual current is thus obtained.
