when a photon strikes a meral surface it gives up its energy to electron
part pf thos energy is used up by the electrons to escape from the metal,the remaining imparts the kinetic energy to the photoelectron .if the incident radiation has frequency v then its photons have energy hv u
from the conservation of energy principle
hv=W+1/2mu2
thos is photoelectric effect.

The photoelectric effect is the observation that many metals emit electrons when light shines upon them. Electrons emitted in this manner may be called photoelectrons.
