Approved Tutor Answer9 Years agoIn 1927 Georges Lemaitre proposed an expanding model of the universe to explain the observed red shift of stars. Big bang theory states that about 13.7 billion years ago all the matter was concentrated into a single tiny point which began to enlarge rapidly leading to a hot explosion and is still expanding today. Evidence for big bang is that all the galaxies are moving away from us.
