what do you mean by linear acceleration

Linear acceleration is the rate of change in velocity over a given time period of an object moving in one direction. This is a fairly basic concept in physics and is part of classical mechanics--the specific field in physics that deals with the laws of motion of non-atomic objects (the movement and behavior of atomic particles is described in quantum mechanics). The simplest everyday example of linear acceleration is a car that is continuously speeding up along a straight road.
