Principle of cyclotron:A charged particle can acquire a large amount of magnetic energy with a comparatively smaller alternating electric field by making it cross the same electric field time and again with the help of perpendicular magnetic field.
Uses:
(i)A cyclotron is used to bombard nuclei with energetic particles and to study the resulting reactions.
(ii) It is used in hospitals to produce radioactive substances used in diagnosis.
