2 kl /ma should be dimension less as 1 is added.
Hence
k * [L]/[M][LT^-2] = [M^0 L^0 T^0]
k = [MT^-2]
Now unit of b = unit of ma/k
Unit of b = [M][LT^-2]/[MT^-2] = L
Hence unit of b = metre

Dear student,

Please note that unity(as expressed in \sqrt{1+\dfrac{2kl}{ma}}) has no dimensions. Since a dimensionless quantity can only be added with a dimensionless quantity,\dfrac{2kl}{ma}must also be dimensionless. Hence the dimensions of\dfrac{ma}{k}must be same as that ofl.

Now, in the expression ofb, the term under the square root must be dimensionless since it is square root of dimensionless quantities. Hence the dimension ofbis that of\dfrac{ma}{k}which is that ofl(as already found).
Hence the unit ofb is meters.
