Aldehydes reduce the copper II solution of fehlings to copper I and produce a brick red precipitate, this is due to the carbonyl C=O group having a hydrogen attached to the carbon rather than an alkyl group so the aldehyde moity is very reactive due to the inductive electronegative inductive of the oxygen making the carbonyl group slightly negative and easy to oxidise, thus it is a strong reducing agent.
