IT is written in laterally inverted way .When a vehicle is moving ahead of it then the driver of the vehicle sees the exact word ambulance in his mirrors.And he let the ambulance pass .

The word AMBULANCE is written in the form of its mirror image.This is because when we are driving our car and see hospital van coming from behind in our rear view mirror then we will get the literally inverted image of AMBULANCE . Since an ambulance carries seriously I'll patients,we can make way for it to pass through and reach hospital quickly.
