In one of the questions we were asked to find velocity of centre of mass of two bodies after two seconds from their projection one upwards and one downwards. I calculated their final velocities after two seconds and used that to find velocity of centre of mass,but in the solution they had used initial velocities to get the answer.how will initial velocities help to find velocities of body after two seconds?

Dear student,

Through initial velocities they have found the initial velocity of center of masses. Now once projected, both will have acceleration ‘g’. Hence same would be the acceleration of center of masses. Then they must have used equation of motionv_{CM}=u_{CM}-gt
