See in this case we have to conserve the total mechanical energy...
initial momentum=mv+m(0)=mv
after the collision occurs the total mass of the system is 2m
so final momentum is 2mv’ ,where v’ is the final velocity.
so conserving the mechanical energy 
2mv’=mv
=>v’=v/2
