gravitational force between point masses m and M seperated by a distacne is F. now if a point mass 2m is placed next to m, what will be the force on M due to m?

The force will still be F because the presence of an additional mass does not affect the force on M due to m. However the total force on M becomes 3F because the mass 2m exerts an additional force of 2F on M.
