Derive an expression for the loss of energy when two conductors at different potentials are brought into electrical contact. Account for this energy.

Dear Student,
Common Potential =( C1V1+C2V2)/(C1+C2)
Total Energy of the system (E1)= ½ C1V12+ ½ C2V22
E2 = ½ (C1+C2) V2
       = ½(C1+C2) (( C1V1+C2V2)2/(C1+C2)2)
       = ( C1V1+C2V2)2 / 2(C1+C2)
E1-E2 = C1C2(V1- V2)2/2(C1+C2)
