The acceleration due to gravity depends on the distance from the center of mass of the large body to the satellite. This distance is the sum of the radius of the Earth and the distance from the satellite to the surface:
r =(6.38 x 106 m) + (600 km)
r = 6 380 000 + 600 000 m
r = 6 980 000 m
The acceleration due to gravity of the satellite can be found from the formula:
g = GM/ r2
g = 6.673* 10 –11 * 5.98 * 1024 / (6980000)2
g = 8.19 m/s2
The acceleration due to gravity at the height of the satellite, 600 km above the surface of the Earth, is 8.19 m/s2
