We are given acceleation and time and it says particle starts moving implies it starts from  rest. So initial velocity is zero. And here we use this standard formula: s=ut+(1/2)a(t^2)
Using this formula we get our answer: 30.25m
Thanks

I tried solving by the same method. But the answer given is 2.25 Do they mean 5.5 secs by 5th half second?

Yes I thought in this way. But we can see this in this way also: we have to find distance in 5th half second.
Formula: s=ut+(1/2)a(t^2)
t^2 = (5/2)^2 – (2)^2 = 2.25 and using this in our formula distance travelled is: 2.25m

5th half second means 2.5 seconds and if we use the formula S=ut+1/2at^2  because u=0 S=1/2at^2 and if we substitute the values in that eqation then S=1/2*2*[2.5]^2=6.25 and because they asked the distance travelled in fifth half second so 6.25-4=2.25m

If 5th half second is 2.5sec then why are we subtracting 4m from 6.25m in final answer. I am still 10th std so I don't know about 5th half second and I used S=u+a/2(2n-1) where n is time and I got answer as 4m. Confused

By this the actually mean when the particle is moving the distance traveled in 5th half second i.e only distance travelled in the half of the 5th second
For this the formula is S(nth)=u+a/2 (2n-1) here n is 5 seconds
Therefore the answer we get is 2.25 by substituting values in it respectively

This is not right question actually. So you people are confused.
There is need to correct the question first.

Dear Student

Here acc. is 2m/s2& 5thhalf means 2.5 so
S = S2.5 – S2
S = 1/2a(2.5)2- 1/2a(2)2

S = 1/2 *2(6.25 – 4)

S = 2.25 m

I hope this answer will help you.
Thanks & Regards
