A mass`m` moving with velocity v collides inelastically with identical stationary mass.after collision 1st mass moves with velocity v/2√2 making angle 45° with initial direction.find the speed of second mass.

Conserve momentum in two directions, along initial direction and perpendicular to it.However, is this possible that two bodies after inelastic collision move separately. I have observed that they stick together and move with common velocity. Please anyone clarify.

Yes it is possible if there is a oblique collision.btw thanx but i tried the same way n my answer is not matching i solved the 2equations,then root of square of sum.but my answer came to be √5v/2 and correct answer is √5v/4 ,i check everywhere but unable to find any mistake.
