Given in the question :- 
=> a man walks : 4 m North ( that is j^ ( j cap ) ) , 12 m west ( that is i^ ) and then finally 3 upwards that is ( z^ ) 
His displacement will be :-
⇒ Displacement is 13 m 
Distance is simply the total path => 12 + 4 + 3 = 19 m
