A diver under water, looks obliquely at a fisherman standing on the bank of a lake. Would the fisherman look taller or shorter to the diver than what he actually is?

e know that the refractive Index of the Water is greater than that of the air.

Due to this Reason, the Shift increases if we are observing other objects from the water.

∴ Fisherman will look Taller.

But this is not the just proof for that. Let us dig a little more.

When we are observing other objects or persons like Fisherman from the water (as Diver's did) obliquely then, the Apparent Depth will be increased due to the depth of the water and the height of the water will also be added to calculate this depth. Thus, the Shift also increases.


Hence, Fisherman will looks taller.
