Remember the Lenz's law:Whenever current(or flux) linked with a circuit changes,the circuit opposes the change by generating a back current(or back emf).
That is why in the second case a current is generated in the opposite direction to the ac current applied.It reduces the current in the circuit from 1 amp to some amount (1-Iinduced)=0.6A.
