each water droplet in the moisture containing air is responsible for the phenomenon of rainbow..
each droplet undergoes total internal reflection which reflects light as a rainbow ... as each droplet does so, the rainbow appears in a semi circular form..
the explanation in ncert physics class 12th txt book clearly explains the same.....
