Why does frictional force act towards the centre when a vehicle is travelling in a circular path?I thought that as friction opposes motion it always acts in the direction opposite to the motion of the particle....

it is the frictional force only which binds us to move in the circular path.
it eguals the centripetal force and thus balances. or in other it provides the centripetal force.
