vectors are easy to resolve.In the above figure cosider a vector A inclined at an angle p with vector S.Vector R is perpendicular to vector S.
vectors are resolved in the way as follows
the vector to which main vector is inclined is known as cos component of the vector while the other is the sine component.
i.e S= Acosp
and R=Asinp.
the above procedure is known as rectangular resolution of vectors.
now second thing which you asked is how to know which vector is to be resolved so the answer depends upon the type of problem resolve the vector to minimise your calculations.
