dear student

Divide the directions and distances in cartesian plane

north is j
east is i
step 1 4j
step 2 +sqrt(2)i -sqrt(2)j
step 3 -sqrt(2)i -sqrt(2)j

summing all the vectors

displacement is (4-2sqrt(2)) in north direction

in these type of question try vectors or by making digram and apply geometry
north is j and east is i
  1.    4j
  2. 2½  - 21/2j
-21/2i-21/2j
add all veators and find the resultant displacement
