Dear student

Frequency isthe characteristicof the source while wavelength isthe characteristicof themedium. When monochromaticlight travels from one medium to another, its speed changes, so its wavelength (λ=c/v) changes but frequency vremainsunchanged

Frequency is the characteristic of the source while wavelength is the characteristic of the medium. When monochromatic light travels from one medium to another, its speed changes, so its wavelength (λ=c/v) changes but frequency v remains unchanged

To consider we have two equations of relation between frequency, wavelength and speed,

E = h * frequency

Here E i.e. energy of photon is dependent on h and frequency where h is constant and hence whenever light enters from one medium to another medium let's consider energy and frequency gonna matter for any change. Energy of photon remains constant and hence frequency.

V = frequency * wavelength

Here frequency can be given as the ratio of velocity and wavelength.

Whenever light changes from one medium to another medium this ratio will remain same as both velocity and wavelength changes are compensatory for each other to give final ratio equal for both mediums. Hence there will be no change in the frequency. Frequency remains constant.

So the two characteristics will not be changing when light travels across two different mediums

  1. Energy of Photon
  2. Freq.
