Verypure nitrogen can be obtainedby the thermal decomposition of sodium or barium azide. Azide salt of bariumcan be obtained inthe purest form as well as the decomposition product contains solid Ba as a by-product along with gaseousnitrogen, henceno additionalstep of separation is required.
