question mark

A vertical straight conductor carries a current vertically upwards. A point p lies to the east of it at a small distance and another point Q lies to west of it at the same distance. The magnetic field at p isA. greater than at QB. same as at QC. less than at QD. greater or less at Q depending upon the strength of the current

As per Biot Savart Law, Magnetic field at a point is inversely proportional to square of distance from thecurrent carrying conductor. Therefore magnitude of magnetic field is same at both points P and Q, irrespective of their position from the conductor.

Magnetic field at a point which is situated at x distance from straight wire is given by this formula...
=> Here, distance between wire and P point and distance between wire and Q point is same = x
=> Also, angle at P and Q point is same...
=> So, magnetic field at both point is same in magnitude but not same in direction...
=> At P point direction of magnetic field is inside and at Q point direction is Outside.
