Velocity of the ball w.r.t to elevator be x
and vb be velocity of ball
ve be the velocity if elevator

so ,

x = vb- ve

therefore  x = 40m/s upward

the ball goes up and then falls down in a straight direction in both cases.when the ball movesup at a peak its v=0m/s

and when it comes down u=0m/s and v=10 m/s
