The electric flux through an area is defined as the electric field multiplied by the area of the surface projected in a plane perpendicular to the field ..

Electric flux is the number of electric field lines passing normal to an area.
Mathematically, it is the dot product of electric field(E) and area(S).
Electric flux=E.S=EScosθ

flux is defines as the number of field lines passing through  unit crosssection
thus the total flux would be E.Acos#
