SInce both charge of same sign so third charge q sholud placed in between of 4Q and 2Q. So electric force by one charge is canceled by another.
Let it has distance d from 4Q.
then for equilibrium
K(4Q)(q)/d2  = K(2Q)(q)/(x-d)2
taking root both side
\sqrt{2}/d = 1/(x-d)
So d = 0.59x.

As the two charges are positive we need a negative charge to maintain it in equilibrium.There is a short trick for this question (both are like charged) let x from small positive charge then,X=√Q1/(√Q1+√Q2)*r After solving we getx=0.59
