if we connect three capacitor in series, the equivalent capacitance is smaller than the smallest,why??..i want a physical explanation

Imagine capacitor as a bucket & charge as water. Since 3 capacitors are in series (i.e. one tube for supplying water) so net charge(water) has to distributed among 3 capacitors (buckets) hence net capacitance (storage capacity) decreases.
