Heat it intensely and run a powerful electric current through the atom(s) in gaseous state, at which point it will become plasma, which is a very low density phase of matter in which the electrons are completely stripped from their atomic nuclei.

Incidentally, the neat part about the extremely low density of plasma is that you can stick your hand in it and pull it out and not gent burnt, despite the fact that its temperature is in the thousands of degrees Fahrenheit.

Keep in mind that at places like the core of the Sun, you have extremely dense plasma, but it is still plasma.
