what is equipotential surfaces?

The electric potential changes as one moves along an electric field line. Thus the potential does not vary if one moves exactly perpendicular to an electric field line at a point. Equipotential surfaces are surfaces such that the tangent plane at each point on the surface is normal to the electric field line at that point. Therefore,the potential is constant everywhere on the surface.
